Louisiana - New Orleans

Welcome to NOLA. This amazing city  has been on the list for quite some time - and well worth the wait! For food & music & passionate people, this is the perfect weekend getaway. We went at the end of May and it was the perfect temperature and we got lucky with no downpours till the last day - when it rains here, it really rains so bring some appropriate gear or duck into a quick bar or restaurant. Love the history and the local pride and love seeing this city get back on its feet after Hurricane Katrina.

The Essentials:
Hotel: Tablet Hotels always delivers an amazing hotel experience - Loft 523
Restaurants: Herbsaint (definitely my favorite atmosphere and food), Cochon (modern and active lunch spot), Bon Ton Cafe (very local, delicious), Luke, Arnauds
Bars: Carousel bar, DBA for some amazing jazz (can't go wrong on Frenchmen Street)

Beautiful Architecture
Coffee Shops: Spitfire Coffee, Cafe Beignet for a quieter and just as delicious experience
Shops: Night market off Frenchmen Street, art shops along Royal Street, local food products (hot sauce, cajun seasoning) from the French market, Central Grocer or the Fresh Market. It is all about the food down here so spend a lot of time at the markets!

NOLA character

Just fun: Airboat Adventures takes you in the swamp for a real Louisiana experience with gators- usually don't do things like this but it was a lot of fun and a true southern vibe.
