Cambodia- Siem Reap

"The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.” – Carl Jung

The people of Cambodia have been through so much, so recently, yet the warmth, kindness and positive spirit emanate from all sources. You can't be anything but transformed after a visit here, from the food to the culture to the history and everything in between.

My favourite thing was how proud most people are to be from Cambodia, and to share that feeling with visitors. That translates into the food, the art, the jewelry, the markets - so many locally sourced shops celebrating true craftsmanship and artisanal power.

Trips like this forever remind me of the good in people, of the love that unites humanity, that is much stronger of a bond to break than today's society remembers. Despite hardship, a common desire to want better in life, for ourselves, for others and for future generations.

The Essentials:
1) Hotel: Heritage Suites is by the River and tucked away a bit in a quiet neighborhood with a lovely pool, stunning room and staff that goes above and beyond. A definite oasis in the hustle of town. And just a note, everywhere takes US$ so just bring that for everything. And cover up at temples.

Art at Heritage Suites...me ruining it

2) Attractions: It's all about the temples, all of them - a 3 day pass is best (credit card is now accepted), rent a tuktuk for $25 a day and explore at your leisure. The experienced drivers will have a set path with lovely breaks along the way and even recommendations for good photo opps, haha.

3) Restaurants: Cambodia does have its own unique cuisine but apparently not well favoured amongst visitors so they have a hybrid of foods but are proudly showcasing some of their traditional foods at many restaurants, favourites being: Marum near Heritage Suites and Chanrey Tree. Also recommended Malis and Embassy Restaurant, for next time.

Breathtaking and unforgettable
