Hong Kong

Hong Kong is like the New York City of Asia- the energy is nonstop but it is beautifully set amidst water and mountains. Everything from the subways to the streets are meticulously kept. We had 2 friends there, one being local, so alot of the places we went were off the grid. There are so many unassuming hidden gems throughout the city - worth exploring and taking a few risks, especially with restaurants. You really can't go wrong. Although it's usually a stop over city, there is alot to keep you busy and would love to come back to explore more!

The Essentials
- Loved our hotel, the Philippe Starck designed J Plus Boutique in Causeway Bay on the Hong Kong Island side - located in a trendy shopping district with easy access to everything including the train from the airport. Central to seeing and doing everything in Hong Kong, with a less touristy feel than Kowloon.

- The best part of the hotel was the Michelin star restaurant across the street- it looks like a cafeteria but is an amazing dim-sum spot. In the same plaza, there is a hidden restaurant upstairs that serves amazing food.  We went with locals so don't remember the names but even locals hit up the big hotels for great food so that is always a good bet!
- March is rainy season - and by rainy it means monsoons which is good reason to head to one of the many reflexology spas. My favorite was Happy Foot off Queens Road. Very clean with private rooms.

- Also off Queens Road, have drinks at the Mandarin Oriental bar and spend some time shopping in the area, this is where all the good stuff is.
- The Kowloon side is more touristy and better for nighttime - restaurants, bars, and clubs. We went for dinner a few times and to see the night markets. My favorite was the W Hotel bar/club - the butterfly motif inside is whimsical and beautiful all at once. One of the best DJs I heard in all of Asia.

- With rain, comes fog so we went up to Victoria Peak but couldn't see more than 50 feet in front of us. Really would like to go back some day as I am sure the views are stunning!
