Morocco- Marrakech

This one has been on my list for a long time, and worth the wait! Other than traveling, cooking is one of my life passions, and I had been on a long stretch of tagine and lamb stews when we finally decided to book this trip. Once you get through the mess at customs, the fun chaos of the city takes over. The spices, mint teas, snake charmers, hammams all make this city an experience for the senses.

 Must Do's
1) Stay in the Medina at a Riad - forget the google maps and get over being lost. As much as I love maps, there is no rhyme or reason to the madness so just go with it. The one key is staying at a Riad near a major tourist destination for easier directions.

2) Riad Talaa 12 - a lovely escape from the madness, close to great restaurants and the Ben Youssif so easy to find. Amazing food, rooms, and rooftop for afternoon drinks and morning breakfast. Amazing staff - five star service and reasonable prices.

3) Royal Mansour spa- breathtaking! The Hammam is great and you can keep the glove for at home treatments. When it's 100+ degrees outside, a great oasis for the day as you can use the pool area. The hotel itself is stunning, but the spa takes it to the next level.

4) Restaurants- Le Foundouk. Ask for outdoor seating, amazing food and I learned that they will even sing happy birthday to you in Arabic! Food is so good overall here, and try the orange juice! Terrasse des Epices great for lunch. Alot of times, better to just be walked back to your Riad to avoid getting lost at night since it can get quiet.

5) Le Sultana for lunch - another nice break from the madness and another architectural gem. Try the camel kabobs - they are delicious! The spa has great argan oil.

6) YSL house- we almost skipped this but a great garden break from the city and worth exploring the new part of the city to see how locals live.

7) Shopping is great - towels, linens, lanterns, silverware, spices, argan oil - all there in abundance but negotiate at least 50% or hire a shopping guide to make sure it's quality.

Medina Shops

8) Sites- Tombeaux Saadiens and Ben Youssef are beautiful, shouldn't miss either. You can explore a separate part of the city as well with both.
