Post 4 of 4 Trip to Northern Italy, Croatia, and Slovenia
Slovenia is still a hidden gem, one with the mountainous beauty of Austria and Switzerland minus the tourists, price tags, and commercialization. People are incredibly warm and welcoming and the goulashes and beers/wines are delicious. Also, don't forget to pick up homemade pumpkin oil and locally sourced salts to take back home. Again, quaint and beautiful- the theme of this entire trip!

Yeah Slovenia! |
The must-do in Slovenia is Lake Bled, it is beyond stunning and even though it is touristy, it's mostly outdoors and you can easily find quiet spots. The hike to the stop is a nice workout after some hearty goulash and you will get a beautiful view of the entire lake. We drove from Northern Croatia to Lake Bled (around 2 hours) and back to Ljubljana (approximately 1 hour) all in one day so very doable. The roads are amazing in Slovenia and so easy to navigate as there is only one major city!

The Essentials
1) Vander Hotel: very modern with a cute breakfast and nice roof. Small and quiet but definitely a hipster little boutique hotel right in downtown and close to everything with parking validation.

Welcome to Lovely Ljubljana |
2) Restaurants & Bars: Gujzina for goulash! The main strip by the water has chill bars all along the strip, great beer and outdoor seating is everywhere along the river.

Gujzina Restaurant - so good |
3) Shopping: Local Farmer's Market - we stocked up for fruit for the rest of the roadtrip. There are alot of local artisans selling everything from homegoods to local food products. I purchased some salt and pumpkin oil that was local and delicious - salt was a great gift. If you are looking for a designer purchase (not highend, but middle of the road brands that appeal to Europeans), head to Galeria Emporium - I bought a Furla wallet for much cheaper than I could get anywhere in the EU or US thanks to a great exchange rate.

Road Snacks...yum |
4) Sites: the whole old town is cute and small, you can hike up the hill to the castle for a nice view.

Can't wait to come back... |
