Argentina - Buenos Aires

“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”

Hipster San Telmo
I haven't been to Argentina in a few years and the lovely bit is that it hasn't really changed that much, the heart and soul are still steady, slow and sexy. Sure, a few more hipster coffee shops and boutique hotels have popped up but you will still get the same amazing steak, art and leather. I love Buenos Aires for all it has to offer but will still always be a bigger fan of Uruguay across the water - it's more natural and rugged and wild, both with beaches and the fincas. Alas, back to BA...

The Basics
- Nothing is open before 10a, not even coffee shops, so stay up late and get a slow start.

Stunning sunrise

- Hotels: There are alot of hotels that are dated, but some new boutiques like Hotel Madero in the lively harbour side have brought alot to the area. There is always the nearby Philippe Starcke Faena Hotel close by which is very Alice in Wonderland with a great bar. And Four Seasons in a historic mansion closer to town with a breakfast that is worth waking up for. HOME boutique hotel is also lovely with a garden pool, chill bar and quiet breakfast. Walk around the area for great cafes and bars (lots of vegetarian options now in this area - surprisingly hard to find meat here.

Whimsical Faena Bar

- Restaurants: the steak and red wine are unbeatable, and La Cabrera still proved to be one of the best in the city. A new find was La Morada for empanadas, baked in every way possible, heaven. There are plenty lovely restaurants by the harbour for all night eating and drinking. San Telmo market is in a hipster area with street art - great food and best coffee. Again, Palermo has the cafe scene.

Empanadas eaten by the dozens
Meat Deliveries around every corner....yum

- Attractions: Do La Boca if you haven't before, the colourful houses are sweet, quick morning visit. And yes visit Evita in the cemetery - ask locales their opinin on the topic, fascinating! Same with Tango, a bit tacky but fun to see it live in its birthplace. Really enjoyed the MALBA, the art museum for a rainy afternoon - great cafe and exhibits.

Tango + Vino

Recoleta Charm

- Fashion: One of my favourite brands is from Argentina, Etiqueta Negra so save some time for shopping. The outlet is even better and close to Palermo - Gola and other local brands have stores here. The linen and leather are beautifully crafted, worth a look.

Beautiful harbourside with the 'Tango' Bridge
