Jamaica- Kingston

Pleasantly surprised by the energy and beauty of this city, not to mention the history, the people, and the food. I was lucky enough to travel with security for work here, and I do think going with a group is better. But not as dangerous as it's made out to be if you are smart and modest. Nothing better than some Red Stripe and Oxtail Stew high up in the coffee mountains. Stunning -

Lush Blue Mountains

Things To Note:
1) Hotels- highly recommend Spanish Court Hotel in downtown - there is a great grocery store across the street where you can stock up on Jerk seasoning and Blue Mountain Coffee. Nice bar and pool, safe and very good restaurant for dinner. Otherwise, we ate a lot with locals and the food was delicious.

2) For a mountain escape, head to Strawberry Hill - literally one of the best hotels in the Caribbean- spa, pool, service, scenery, and food all amazing. No need to come down the hill if you don't want. On a clear day, lovely view of the entire city below. Their van service will pick up and drop off from downtown which is good since they know the mountain roads very well. And easy to go up for the day.

3) Bob Marley museum & studio - I wasn't even a big Reggae fan but came home and watched the Marley documentary; really moving and impressive.

Bob Marley Museum- 56 Hope Road

4) Devon House - beautiful old mansion with a nice park home to Kingston's best ice cream. We watched kids play soccer and locals picnic outside in the heat - very chill.

5) There are some pretty rustic beaches if you're willing to venture out of town - I would ask for some ideas and get a trustworthy ride. Not as nice as most Jamaican beaches, but not too shabby for a big city either!
