Portugal Part II - Lisbon + Sintra

What Is Love? I have met in the streets a very poor young man who was in love. His hat was old, his coat worn, the water passed through his shoes and the stars through his soul.

The more I go to Portugal, the more I realise that it has everything one could wish for in a destination that blends holiday and home. Lisbon is the SF of Europe, but cleaner, safer and more sophisticated. It is an easy walking city with affordable restaurants, stellar cuisine, lovely local artisans and access to anything else you desire. Lisbon has been a stopover on my last two trips, but next time it will be the destination.

Alot of hills + walking, with breaks for wine and sardines by the water and some local pottery to bring home. You have to climb to Castello S. Jorge for the best view and a good workout - you can't get tickets online but the wait is worth it.

The coastal train to Cascais and Sintra is beautiful and inexpensive...better than the highway by far. Alot of resorts out here, went off season so very calm and great running weather with trails by the sea. Sintra is a UNESCO site and worth the trip up, with a tuktuk ride down into town for tapas and some wine. Although touristy, still a lovely hike and view on a nice evening.
