Nevis, West Indies

Went to Nevis for our 1 year wedding anniversary - a quick escape from NYC and such a quiet peaceful island, unlike many of the Caribbean islands which cater to cruise ships and big resorts. Also the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton!

We stayed at the Four Seasons here and as it was hurricane season, we got an amazing deal and the weather was fabulous and the whole stay was amazing - spa rooms are in private little wooden cottages and the outdoor morning yoga classes are a must do! A private boat takes you over from the main island of St. Kitts and then you are free to relax and enjoy this lovely island - safe, quiet, and amazing restaurants. We wanted to go to the Montpelier Reservation which was an old sugar mill but it was closed as it was off-season so instead went to the Hermitage which was just as great and quaint. It's a small local inn and has a warm, friendly staff with amazing food, and friendly local animals.

Love the tropics - hello sun!

Overall, long walks, great beaches, and nothing but relaxation. Out of all the Caribbean islands we have been to, a really great pick if you just need a deep breath and want some sun and fun. Walk down the beach to the beach bar Sunshines for their legendary Killer Bee drinks - perfect sunset bar to just chill and dance with the locals (and tourists) and really absorb a true sense of island life. Stroll home along the beach and wish for nothing more- a great escape, small sunshine heaven!
